Japanese used car prices for Africa: 2026 buyer's guide
By ASTONISHING CARS CO., LTD · Updated 2026-06-01
Demand from African markets continues to centre on durable, fuel-efficient vehicles that handle mixed road conditions. Toyota and Nissan dominate, with the Land Cruiser, Hiace, Probox and X-Trail among the most requested units.
FOB prices from Japan softened slightly through early 2026 as domestic auction supply recovered, but a weaker yen keeps Japanese stock highly competitive for foreign-currency buyers.
For most East African ports, total landed cost runs roughly 40 to 70 percent above FOB once freight, insurance, duty and clearing are included. Confirm your country's age limit before bidding: many markets cap imports at 8 to 15 years.
