JEVIC and JAAI pre-export inspection explained
By ASTONISHING CARS CO., LTD · Updated 2026-06-02
Many importing countries require a pre-export inspection before a Japanese car can be shipped, carried out by accredited agencies such as JEVIC or JAAI. The certificate they issue is both a legal requirement at many ports and a strong layer of buyer protection.
The inspection verifies the vehicle's roadworthiness, records the chassis number and specifications, and independently confirms the odometer reading. This is your safeguard against odometer tampering, because the mileage is documented by a neutral third party at the point of export.
Some countries also require a roadworthiness or emissions element, and a few mandate a pre-shipment radiation screening for vehicles from Japan. The exact scope depends on the destination's regulations, which the exporter must follow precisely.
Countries that commonly require pre-export inspection include Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Mozambique, Mauritius and several others, each with its own approved agency and certificate format. Shipping without the correct certificate risks rejection or heavy delay on arrival.
ASTONISHING CARS arranges the correct inspection for your destination as standard, so your car arrives with valid, accepted documentation. The inspection report also gives you independent confirmation of the condition you bought.
