Toyota Land Cruiser & Prado export guide: the durability benchmark
By ASTONISHING CARS CO., LTD · Updated 2026-06-18
No vehicle carries the reputation of the Toyota Land Cruiser. Across deserts, mountains and rough rural roads it has earned a reputation for going anywhere and lasting decades, which is why it is the most coveted Japanese 4x4 in export markets and a benchmark for resale value.
The range splits into the full-size Land Cruiser (the 200 and later 300 series, plus the legendary 70 series workhorse) and the mid-size Land Cruiser Prado (120, 150 series). The full-size cars offer luxury and ultimate capability; the Prado balances comfort, running cost and off-road ability for everyday use.
Diesel variants are the most prized where fuel is expensive and distances are long, thanks to torque and economy, while the 70 series remains the choice for pure utility and the harshest conditions. Petrol versions are smoother and cheaper to buy but cost more to run.
Because demand is global and supply finite, condition and provenance heavily influence price. Look for a documented service history, a clean auction grade and an unmodified chassis, and be cautious of heavily off-roaded examples. A sound Prado or Land Cruiser is one of the few cars that can appreciate in some markets.
ASTONISHING CARS sources Land Cruiser and Prado units across Japanese auctions, verifies grade and history, and provides a transparent CIF quote. Confirm your country's age limit and emissions rules first, as some markets restrict older diesels.
