How to track your car shipment from Japan
By ASTONISHING CARS CO., LTD · Updated 2026-06-10
Once you have bought a car from Japan, knowing how to track its journey gives peace of mind and lets you prepare clearance in good time. Tracking relies on a few key documents and milestones rather than a single live map, so it helps to know what to ask for and when.
After purchase, the car moves to a yard, then to the port for loading. The pivotal document is the Bill of Lading, issued once the car is loaded, which carries the vessel name, voyage number and booking details you use to follow the ship. Ask your exporter for it as soon as it is available.
With the vessel and voyage number you can follow the ship on public vessel-tracking services to see its position and estimated arrival. For RoRo or container shipments, the shipping line's reference also lets you check status, and your exporter should confirm loading and departure dates.
As arrival nears, use the estimated arrival date to brief your clearing agent and have documents and duty ready, so the car clears inside the free period. Good tracking is really about converting shipping information into timely clearance preparation, not just watching a dot on a map.
ASTONISHING CARS keeps you updated through each milestone and provides the Bill of Lading and vessel details promptly, so you can track your car and prepare clearance with no guesswork.
