Nissan Caravan Export Buyer's Guide: The Hiace Rival Van

By ASTONISHING CARS CO., LTD · Updated 2026-06-11

The Nissan Caravan, marketed in recent generations as the NV350, is a full-size commercial van built for heavy daily use. It is the closest rival to the Toyota Hiace and serves the same roles: cargo hauling, passenger shuttling and conversion into work vehicles.

Durability and capacity are its core appeal. Strong diesel and petrol options, a large flat load floor and a body engineered for long service make it a workhorse in demanding markets. Diesel grades are especially prized where fuel cost and torque for loaded driving matter most.

Because these vans work hard, inspection is critical. Check for engine smoke, timing-related noises, worn suspension and rust around the floor and door sills, and scrutinize the auction sheet for repaired structural damage. Confirm seating configuration, since passenger and cargo layouts differ significantly.

Parts support is broad in regions with established Japanese commercial fleets, though Hiace parts can sometimes be even easier to find. For operators wanting Hiace-class capability at a competitive price, the Caravan is a credible and durable choice.
