Spare parts availability: why it should guide your import choice
By ASTONISHING CARS CO., LTD · Updated 2026-06-08
For an imported car, parts availability often matters more than specification, because a cheap car that is expensive or slow to repair quickly becomes a liability. The smartest importers choose models whose parts are abundant, cheap and available locally.
This is a major reason Japanese cars dominate import markets: mainstream Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda and Suzuki models are so widespread that genuine and aftermarket parts, plus mechanics who know them, exist almost everywhere they are sold.
The safest choices are high-volume models like the Corolla, Hilux, Land Cruiser, Vitz, Probox, Hiace and common SUVs, for which parts are a commodity. Rare trims, low-volume imports, complex hybrids without local support, and unusual engines can be far costlier to maintain.
Before buying, check that your local market stocks parts and has mechanics familiar with the model and its drivetrain, especially for diesels and hybrids. Standardising on a popular model also makes a fleet cheaper to run and easier to resell.
ASTONISHING CARS advises on the models with the strongest parts support for your market, helping you avoid a cheap purchase that turns into an expensive headache, and quotes transparent CIF pricing on sensible choices.
